Younger: NDP Government Continues Its Secrecy![]()
October 1, 2010
(Halifax, NS) Liberal energy critic Andrew Younger says that the NDP government should release all submissions related to the renewable energy strategy in Nova Scotia.
“The premier declared this to be Right to Know week, but turns around and suppresses these documents,” says Younger. “The NDP government is simply paying lip-service to the idea of transparency while continuing to deny access to important information.”
In the spring, the NDP government quashed the release of a socio-economic report on gambling, Shortly after, the Auditor General reported to the legislature that he was blocked by the NDP government while trying to access documents from Economic and Rural Development and Nova Scotia Business Inc. This cover up forced the Auditor General to deny an audit opinion, the most serious sanction an auditor can give and the first time such a penalty was issued.
“There is no reason for the Dexter government to be withholding this information,” said Younger. “These submissions were solicited by the NDP for the purposes of consultation and as part of a public process.
Clearly, there is a disconnect here.”
“In light of Right to Know Week, it is especially disappointing to see Premier Dexter continue his government’s policy opposing transparency and accountability by denying an open discussion on green energy regulations.”
