McNeil Announces Changes to Liberal Caucus Roles

Return to media releases

January 27, 2012

(Halifax, NS) Liberal leader Stephen McNeil has today announced changes to the Liberal caucus lineup that have several members taking on new roles and responsibilities.

“In light of Manning MacDonald’s recent decision to retire and as we head towards the next election, I took the opportunity to look at all the positions within caucus as well as our entire Liberal team," says McNeil. "I believe the more members we can expose to different roles and challenges, the stronger we'll be as the Official Opposition and the more prepared we will be to govern should Nova Scotians grant us that privilege."

McNeil has named Richmond MLA Michel Samson as the new Liberal House Leader; Samson was first elected in 1998.

Diana Whalen, the MLA for Halifax-Clayton Park, becomes the Caucus Chair and Bedford-Birch Cove MLA Kelly Regan becomes the Caucus Whip.

Dartmouth East MLA Andrew Younger, Liberal Deputy House Leader, will become one of the Liberal representatives on PAC. Keith Colwell, the MLA for Preston has been selected as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

Kings West MLA Leo Glavine remains Deputy Speaker and the caucus critic roles remain unchanged as well.

"This is a talented team of women and men - stronger and more focused than ever," says McNeil.
