Dexter Government Listened to Liberals About DASC Funding
December 6, 2011
(Halifax, NS) Liberal MLA Andrew Younger says he is happy that the Dexter government listened to reason and decided to provide funding to Darmouth Adult Services Centre.
“I called on the government in October to provide the funding to DACS,” says Younger. “Today the government announced their plans to provide the centre with
$500,000.”
The province’s funding is in addition to $2.4 million from the federal government and assistance from the Halifax Regional Municipality.
“This organization provides important services to people with special needs in our community,” says Younger. “DASC is working to begin construction of a proper facility to deliver the services that the community continues to need – this funding will make completing the facility more likely.”
Younger says investing in DASC is not only good public policy, but will save the government money.
“As people move off the DASC waiting list and into the available programs, they also move out of more expensive government programs,” says Younger. “DASC provides individuals in our community with important social and employment skills.”
“The work of DASC helps families and strengthens our province and economy – I am glad that Premier Dexter listened to our calls for support.”
